BATON ROUGE – A 48-second video clip recorded by people who just purchased items from a convenience store in North Baton Rouge Tuesday morning captured an altercation that resulted in Baton Rouge Police shooting and killing Alton Sterling.

WBRZ editors have decided to post most of the video, but froze the video and silenced sound just before shots are fired.

The video posted on WBRZ.com and television editions of WBRZ showed an officer draw what appears to be his gun, and point it at Sterling who had been shoved to the ground. In the entire video, as many as three or more shots are heard and people scream.

Baton Rouge, LA Last night, officer involved shooting death of Alton Sterling. Police officer white. Hoping this does not turn ugly. This involves my friend who is LEO. It is just getting started. I have some details that I will post as soon as I am told I can. They are rolling 15 units deep tonight with SWAT and K9. The growing crowd is shouting black lives matter and kill the pigs. One of Mayoral candidates is from Chicago and is putting her 2 cents in.

Alton Sterling very well known to LE. Multiple felony convictions.

On a side note store owner is Muslim. Was very uncooperative with LE. Did not want to turn over outside store video.

Alton was armed, known to LE , previous weapons charges and was trying to get his gun out of pocket.
The statements witnesses are making is unbelievable. The initial call was he had threatened someone with the gun.

Rumpole, if I am taking up space and it is not appropriate, just take it down. You can hit my hands with a ruler. :doh

Sterling is a convicted felon and registered sex offender. He was arrested at one time on gun related charges. I am trying to find all of records now. This is what I have found so far.

My best friend, who is a woman, is on duty tonight. She is keeping me posted through night, we HATE her job. She and husband were Border Patrol in Texas. They are both Police Officers in Baton Rouge now. Good, solid people. They don't deserve this. No Police Officer deserves this!

I looked at the vid and read some of the stories.

I see they tased the guy a couple of times and that had no effect... which maybe suggests he was drugged? I dont know.

I'd like to hear cops version.

Whatever the circumstances of the shooting..... "protests", rioting and looting as a response is not going to change things.

Somebody shouted "he has a gun".
The guy appears to be "pinned down"... but was he really under control? A struggling agitated (drugged) man on the ground with a gun is still a HUGE threat.
We really do need to hear the police version of events.

The cops made contact with him on their arrival. He could have cooperated at that point. He, Sterling, escalated this situation. They tased him with no effect. Then he fought with cops. They knew he had gun in pocket. Cannot see everything in video. The officers knew his priors, knew what they were dealing with. Hard to stay impartial for me. I should not comment one way or the other.

The only thing I will say is you should not play stupid games with LEO when you are a known convicted felon in possession of a gun.

Friend texted me at 4 am, one hour ago. They were working three shootings, I don't have any details and do not know if related to this situation.

We are the first state to pass the Blue Lives Matter law.

IF there is any important new details.. it's nice to copy/paste a passage of text.

I see this story does have "legs" as a BLM thing.

Lots of activity on twitter and it was an item on Fox News.

All I see though is "outrage" at another black killed by white cops. No new details.

What if the Officer we see withdraw his gun, one holding Alton's left arm, is not the Officer who fires the shots? What if it is the other Officer, who yells Gun, Gun!, who fires the shots? We can't see most of Alton's right arm, or his hand at all? ;)

The dying black man, his empty hands flailing and blood pouring from his chest, held no weapon of any kind when pinned down and fatally shot by two white Baton Rouge cops.

A revealing video, distributed by a storeowner who witnessed the killing, showed one of the officers slipping something out of Alton Sterling’s pants after five gunshots were fired.

Sterling, his eyes rolling back in his head, slowly waved a twitching arm across his body as blood began pooling on his chest.

“F--k!” screams one of the cops before the other removes the object from the 37-year-old man’s right pants pocket. An eyewitness said flatly that a gun was pulled from the body.

The headline is not accurate.

The video shows Sterling with right arm at right side... quite likely on, or near the handle of the gun in his pocket.

Here somebody says "he's got a gun" Sterling's hand likely on the gun and cop at his feet end is VERY vulnerable over the top of the gun. Other cops at his head shoots.

New Video Emerges of Baton Rouge Shooting





It is the cop at the feet end during struggle who ends up at head end on ground, gun pointing back at Sterling.

I wonder if first shot heard is in fact Sterling firing?
