PHOENIX (AP) -- Roughly a third of 300 potential jurors were dismissed Monday in the penalty retrial of convicted murderer Jodi Arias after telling a judge they had seen too much media coverage of her first trial to be impartial or had already made up their minds about her punishment.

"Today was a long day in jury selection," says courtroom blogger Jen Wood. "There was a lot of going through who would be fair in this trial."

Other jurors were let go due to work conflicts or language barriers, among other reasons, as jury selection began in the second attempt by prosecutors to secure a death sentence in the Arizona case that became a tabloid TV sensation.

He has lost a load of weight and his hair has greyed. Maybe he will become a prosecutor after this :78 . I don't know what I would have done with a client like Jodi who is simply a dull witted know it all monster. I find her repulsive.

Rumpole I imagine the jury pool is going to be a rough go, they are going to have to find people who are willing to sign up to simply decide whether or not someone lives or dies, each juror by law must say that they are willing to give the death penalty. I think because Jodi's guilt has already been established that the jurors are going to end up being conservative death penalty leaning folks, but it only takes one hold out and then Jodi gets to live out the rest of her life, singing, tweeting and taunting the Alexander family. It is too bad that the jury didn't give her a death sentence in the first place. If I remember right the foreman said he would like to chat with Jodi to see what makes her tick. Fine there fellow just make sure that there are no pointy objects around while you are chatting.

Yes. Kinda silly exercise. "Catch22 type thing. People who are prepared to decide on death. Are in favor of DP and are likely gonna do it for Arias.

I think especially people who know that they are decided life or death exclusively. The people in the first trial were more theoretically agreeing that they could sign their name to a death warrant this new jury is saying I can will sign to execute Jodi. I would love to watch jury selection it has to be fascinating.

Yes if this goes on much longer, they wont need DP. Nurmi would have strangled her.

Arias' attorneys want death penalty off the table
Posted: Oct 02, 2014 12:22 PM Updated: Oct 03, 2014 6:21 AM
By Jason Barry, Submitted by Phil Benson

PHOENIX (CBS5) - The attorneys for Jodi Arias have filed a motion to dismiss the death penalty from consideration in her sentencing re-trial.

Defense attorneys claim that there's been a long history of misconduct by the prosecutor and law enforcement officials that dates back to the original murder trial last year.

Allegations of withholding evidence, harassing witnesses, and unnecessary searches of Arias' jail cell, are part of the motion.

The judge is taking the motion under advisement, while the search goes on to find an impartial jury that can fairly decide whether Arias should be put to death or given life in prison for the 2008 murder of her boyfriend Travis Alexander.
