Jodi Arias Trial News Update: Travis Alexander's Brother Reveals Date for Arias Retrial

Despite Jodi Arias' efforts to push back her retrial, a date has been set for the convicted killer's sentencing trial.

Arias was convicted of first-degree murder on May 8 in the ghastly 2008 death of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in his suburban Phoenix, Ariz. home. However, the same jury that found her guilty failed to reach a unanimous decision on her sentencing. As a result, a retrial will be held to determine whether she should be sentenced to death, life in prison or life with a chance of release after serving 25 years.

According to Alexander's family, Arias has tried to push the date back for her next trial in order to thwart their efforts. However, Alexander's brother, Steven, declared that they have not been deterred. On Facebook, he revealed that the sentencing trial for the "monster that haunts" his family will begin in February of next year.

"Letting everybody know the trial isn't due to start until mid February," he wrote in a Facebook post that was shared by the Justice for Travis fan page.

I watched the "Snapped" special episode on Jodi. Man is she wacked! I hadn't followed this case, but when I saw from the show the evidence against her, I was floored she even went to trial. I mean, she has got one huge inflated ego to think she could've gotten a not guilty verdict. Only an arrogant ego the size of a country would've turned down a plea deal or at least pled guilty & thrown themselves on the mercy of the court. Sheesh!

I and several here watched the trial... I was a bit late getting to it. No doubt about guilt... no doubt about the fact it was premeditated... planned in some detail, including an alibi. Claiming she was "in a fog" was nonsense... and even if that was accepted... does not explain or mitigate anything. The psychobabble about JODI being the one abused in the relationship was a joke. With the sad side effect that genuine abuse cases were done a disservice. Jodi tried her best to destroy Travis's reputation too... like abusing and killing him over again. I hope that point is stressed for the new jury. No remorse, no admission of guilt even... and still trying to lie and blame anyone and everyone else.... DP time I think?
So IMO... LWOP for sure and I think DP too... though that is always down to the jury.

Will Jodi Arias get life - or death - in 2014?

In November, a judge ruled live television coverage of Arias’ penalty phase retrial will be banned and the case will remain in Phoenix despite arguments from the defense, which wanted it moved. Arias' murder trial was broadcast live and became a four-month long television spectacle. A date for the retrial of the sentencing phase remains undetermined but is expected to take place sometime in 2014.

Jodi Arias Trial Update: Friday Hearing Yields No Re-trial Date; Next Argument Set for Jan 19

A hearing in the Jodi Arias trial on Friday, January 3 yielded no re-trial date.

The closed door hearing–the public and media have been barred from the trial since late last year–did not end in a set date for which to re-start the trial.

The next oral argument regarding the set date is scheduled for January 13 at 9:30 a.m., according to the blog Court Chatter.

“As parties emerged from the courtroom, prosecutor Juan Martinez looked pleased while [Arias attorneys] Kirk Nurmi and Jennifer Wilmott did not,” the blog said.

Troy Harden of Fox 10 in Phoenix commented via Twitter on not being allowed into the court room again, a recurrence that has frustrated reporters and some members of the public.

Judge Sherry Stephens has held hearing after hearing behind closed doors as the next steps of the case unfold almost entirely under a shroud of secrecy after the trial began with complete transparency and easy access, reported AP.

Head's up! On the 11th of Jan. there will be a program about Jodi Arias on chn. I.D. Not sure of the time - check in your paper? Might be 8 PM.

Oh yeah! Thanks I hope I don't forget. I watched the Snapped show and it was ok, there were some things I didn't think were quite right but I am not an expert! I even forget what those things were.

I wonder if that will be available on YouTube as we can't see it over here.

Seems none of us will see the court proceedings... they are closed.
As far as I recall the only cameras are still cameras... so best we will get is still shots after the events
(No feed to put on YT later)

However... I have covered trials before where there is no live coverage. We can usually find twitter updates... etc and follow progress.

What a trip she is! Holding up shirts she had made "Survivor"... right!!
And she is going to start a recycling program at the jail. THERE ALREADY IS ONE!!!
