Prosecutor: Man held in wounding of two officers at Ferguson may have been shooting at someone else

CLAYTON • A man who participated in a protest outside the Ferguson police station Wednesday night returned to the area and fired shots — possibly at someone other than police — that wounded two officers, authorities said Sunday.

Jeffrey Williams, 20, was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, one count of firing a weapon from a vehicle and three counts of armed criminal action. He was in custody, with cash-only bail set at $300,000.

"It is possible that he was firing at someone other than the police," St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert P. McCulloch said at a press conference Sunday. He said there had been civilians between Williams, who fired from a car, and the officers who were wounded.

He said Williams may have acted on a dispute with people over something that had nothing to do with the demonstration, but added, "I'm not sure we're completely buying that part of it."

"We're not 100 percent sure there was a dispute," McCulloch noted.

I think the bond is low also but is an all cash bond

Cash Bail

If you paid cash bail to the court, meaning you paid the full bail amount, you will have that money returned to you after the defendant makes all required court appearances. If the person does not show up in court, that money will be forfeited and you will not see it again. And if the defendant gets arrested again while out on bail, no refund will be given.

If a defendant is found not guilty, the bond is discharged; if the defendant pleads guilty, the bond is discharged at the time of sentencing.

A nice little kick in the teeth for Williams for sure. Still too low though. A decision probably made out of not wanting to sound racist for setting a bond in keeping with the crime.

Ferguson Protest Organizer: Shooting Suspect Was 'Set Up' By Police

An area protest organizor and pastor stunned MSNBC host Tamron Hall on Monday when he said that the suspect charged with shooting two Ferguson, Mo. police officers was "set up" by law enforcement.

On Sunday, St. Louis County prosecutors charged Jeffrey Williams, 20, with shooting two police officers last week during a demonstration outside the Ferguson Police Department. According to the Associated Press, Williams told investigators that he wasn't targeting the officers.

In an interview on Monday, the Rev. Derrick Robinson, one of the organizers of the protest, told Hall that he had met with Williams on Sunday. Hall asked Robinson about a rumor that the suspect was trying to shoot at someone who robbed him that day.

Robinson confirmed that Williams claimed he'd been robbed. What he said next had Hall grasping for words.

"And I think, I believe he was frustrated, and I really believe he was set up, and I really believe that. I know it may not —"

Bishop Derrick Robinson is a protest organizer and in a prior November 5th picture was noted at the Ferguson protest with police shooting suspect Jeffrey Williams. Robinson is now making the TV circuit claiming Williams was “set up” by the police.

From the Complaint (Full Complaint Below):
…”in the County of St. Louis, State of Missouri, the defendant, knowingly shot a firearm from a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, a motor vehicle, and caused serious physical injury as a result”….

This phrase alone essentially deconstructs the “self defense” claim of Ferguson Shooter Jeffrey L Williams because the vehicle described in the complaint is in a video of the shooting.
