World in Union (Official Rugby WC Song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_in_Union

Quote:
"World in Union", with lyrics by Charlie Skarbek, is a theme song for the Rugby World Cup that attempts to capture the spirit of international friendship which pervades rugby union culture the world over.

The melody is "Thaxted" — the stately theme from the middle section of "Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity", a movement from Gustav Holst’s "The Planets", and was originally adapted for its use in the English/Anglican patriotic hymn, “I Vow to Thee My Country”.

The song was commissioned by the International Rugby Board (at that time the International Rugby Football Board), the sport's governing body, in 1991 and it has now become synonymous with the "gathering of the nations" that the four-yearly tournament represents.

World in Union (1999) Milenium Stadium (Cardiff, Wales) - Shirley Bassey and Bryn Terfel

Uploaded on Feb 5, 2008
Beautiful and moving! Shirley Bassey and Bryn Terfel perform "World In Union" at the Wells Millennium Stadium at last major sporting event before the Millennium. It was decided at the last minute that the song would NOT be sung live because the wind and weather conditions were too rough. You can see that Shirley was able to relax, have fun and wave to the crowd...

Adding this to bring Wales' fave son Tom Jones in on things :)

Bread of Heaven: April 11th 1999. Sung at Wembley before Wales vs England

The welsh Rugby crowd's SECOND anthem is the Tom Jones hit "Delilah"

I just read there were moves to BAN it from being sung by Crowds at Rugby matches.. because (they say) it alludes to "Domestic Violence" :roll

PC gone nuts... :lol

Fat chance of stopping a Welsh crowd from singing "Delilah" :slap

Looking at the pool draws... 2 top teams from each pool progress....

POOL A
Australia
England
Wales
Fiji
Uruguay

Australia are a certainty to get through... and the other team should be England or Wales.
I am not "au fait" with recent form... I'll rely on the song by Stereophonics (Welsh Band)
