Sri Lanka won the coin toss... and opted to bat first..... after less than half an hour... they have already lost two wickets (two players out)... so it is exciting :24

Cricket is is a little corker.....

Sri Lankans dropping like flies......

5/128.... :91

Translated: 5 Sri Lankan batsmen are out, and the team has scored 128 "runs"

Not a good performance.

Another two Sri Lankans out one after the other (7/134)

Mitchell Johnson (Oz Bowler) "on a hat trick" .... 3 batsmen in a row bowled out...........

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh......... Mitchell bowled a "no ball" (foot fault)... so batsman could not be out.

No "hat trick" for Johnson

Sri Lanka "all out" (10 of 11 players out) for only 156

This is known as a "Collapse"

After a break Australia get a chance to bat.

Cricket Tests have 2 "innings" each side get two goes at batting and scoring runs... so Sri Lanka not out of it... but it's not looking good :24

DAY 3 of the Cricket Test is on now.

Since I last updated....

Sri Lank were all out for 156 runs (not a good score)

Australia batted for some of day 1 and all of day 2 and for a short time on Day 3 and scored 460 (all out now)

So after the first inning for both sides... Australia lead by 304 runs.

Sri Lanka now get a Second innings... to wipe off that 304 run deficit and score as many as possible on top of 304.

They are NOT doing very well. Already 4 Sri Lankan batsmen are out... and they have scored just 21 runs.

IF Sri Lanka fail to get 304 runs... then Australia win without needing to bat a second innings at all.

That seems a likely outcome.

Cricket CAN be effected by rain stopping play... but weather seems to be fine in Melbourne :24

SUMMARY SCORE
Sri Lanka 156 & 21/4 v Australia 460

Sri lanka now 5 players out for 78 runs (5/78)

And its worse than the score says.. 3 SL players have broken fingers and so probably are unable to bat...... so in effect it means 8 players are "out"

(also one of the guys currently batting (Prasad) has been hit on the fingers twice.. so is not comfortable.. but is batting on)

Game over Australia WIN!!!!

SL ended innings with 7 players out for just 103 runs. (7/103)

Normally an innings continues until 10 players are out... leaving one player with no partner, but as I said... 3 SL players had injuries which prevented them playing. Two never came out to bat (injured earlier) one SL player "retired hurt" when hit on the finger..... if fit he could have come back.. but he went off to hospital. the injury too severe.

So... game over half way through 3rd day... never made it to 5 days.

It was a thrashing for SL
