Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bowl.

Apparently "history" is that side fielding 1st at Eden Park win 80% of the time.

McCullum says.. he would have opted to bat anyway :neener

Apparently 314 is record score on Eden Park, and records are being bettered these days anyway :cool

Remember on the VERY SAME PITCH 3 days ago, Pakistan scored 290, at that after "losing their way" somewhat.

Pakistan WERE 207/3 after 30 overs.... looking like scoring more than 400.

I EXPECT NZ to bat like stink from the ouset and will settle for nothing less than 350+ :cool

I missed a bit.. dealing with server issues.. but as far as I can tell... NZ got close to 100 after 15 overs... which is good.
2 wickets down is BAD ish, but OK... but Guptil is still there is good again :)

The old "Double the score" after 30 overs (with wickets in hand) would suggest a final score of 412. :94

New Zealand 206/4 after 30 overs (was just 3 down at start of over)

In the past recent games... it looked like that trick gave a LOW score and you should double score after 32 - 35 :eek

I dont think the rule has been working last 2 games.... could be proved wrong this game :)

the WASP says 326 :cool

NZ falling to pieces somewhat

New Zealand 236/6 (38.0 ov)

And to make matter worse... Rigor Richardson is potificating on how batsman should play.... naturally he suggests they play defensively (not scoring runs) which is the way Richardson played the game... boring people senseless for hours on end (and then going out) :doh

Now a maiden over, so 236/6 still after 39 overs.

TV coverage is up....

Weather... looks GREAT.. clear skies. :91

McCullum WINS the toss... decided to bat first

Now.. as always I EXPECT 350+

NZ batting first should SHOW the Aussies a proper ODI score.

They will NEED to make it a large total... Australia will be out to redeem themselves!!

ETA
I just heard this is same pitch that NZ scored 390 on in World Cup V West Indies
Which confirms 350+ is initial target.. maybe for once we will see 400?? :cool

As just mentioned.. NZ go into this cricket game as "TAB" FAVORITES to beat Australia ... :eek

This has NEVER happened before .. in my memory :95

McCullum started well.. shame he was out so soon.. but them's the breaks.

BB McCullum b Boland 28 (12b 2x4 3x6) SR: 233.33

NOT too impressed with Guptil.. or Williamson ... allowing maiden overs.. and letting balls pass without playing a shot is NOT the way to pay ODI :doh

Commentators ( especially "Rigor Mortis" Richardson) are making the usual excuses...

"OK to be batting slow and "accumulating" with a view do making up for it later"

Yeah.. right!!! :roll

Except..... on most occasions, batters who waste balls "getting their eye in"... then go out... in effect wasting balls delivered and leaving later batsmen to make up for THEM.. as well as scoring "for their own sake"

It make more sense to be batting NOW (rather than later).. no shame in going out with SR 100+ (no balls wasted, no runs to be made up by others)

And... if they do manage to stay in as well as maintain the runs.. then "when they get their eye in".. thaey can THEN post a huge score.

Told ya!!! :wall

Guptil out.... SR below par :roll

MJ Guptill c Khawaja b Marsh 31 (45b 4x4 0x6) SR: 68.88

IF this is to be a 350+ game then average SR's need to be OVER a 100. Anything less detracts from team performance :59

Williamson out in 30th over

Again... failed to "make up" for low SR early on :doh

KS Williamson c Smith b Zampa 60 (74b 5x4 1x6) SR: 81.08

--------
Doubling score after 30 overs to predict final score has NOT been working too well, but FWIW

New Zealand 160/4 (30.0 ov)

So on the prediction they should score 320+

I think they NEED to do better than that.. closer to 350+

WASP is 283.. THAT is a losing score for sure :cool

NZ needs a "Hero"

Somebody hitting a few boundaries in a swashbuckling innings.. they are dribbling their way to a crap score.

If that happens.. then the only way they will win is if Australia play a crap innings.. and I cant see that happening two games in row :cool

Santner and Milne put a little respectability back into the NZ innings... but an end spurt is even better IF the top order have done a better job beforehand :cool
