Rule changes ODIs could use http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/858173.html Interesting article. I don't understand the power play overs but think it would be good to have six outside the circle in the last ten. And increasing the quota per bowler sounds like really messing with the rules. I took the poll and am in the majority  Although I think letting the captain decide, would give McCullem an advantage. I thought New Zealand's fielding in the Cup matches was outstanding.

I thought I would try and get interested in Cricket but I just don't have the time or desire to devote to learning enough about it to make it interesting to me. Besides it is  tennis season and that is my favorite sport, tomorrow Djokovic and Murray are playing for the Miami Championship  Tennis the King of sports  I have convinced my family members that we should work Easter dinner around the match  I am glad you guys like Cricket

Hi Carm  I was at a good place when Rump started talking World Cup on twitter with another guy friend. I lurked and tried to learn late at night when I normally did work - proofing depositions. I quit that work and had more time to read about cricket. I also closed three online stores that took up about 12 hrs in my day, which gave me even more time. I only know the basics now, enough rules to enjoy a game. As I've said a million times, it is a fascinating sport (to me) and I'm lucky to have the time to enjoy it. I did catch a bit of tennis yesterday but was pulling for Murray.

LOL! OMG, I remember you telling me about this. I read the articles and saw the photos ... how embarrassing for him. He should have known better. And shame on those women for blabbing. Like they didn't get anything from it all. Sold out to the tabloids from what I remember. You can't trust anyone.

Mr Cairns, 45, was accused at Southwark Crown Court of falsely declaring under oath during a 2012 libel case that he had "never, ever cheated at cricket". During that libel case he had successfully sued Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi for accusing him on Twitter of match-fixing. Speaking outside court, the retired all-rounder said it had been "hell". His former adviser, barrister Andrew Fitch-Holland, 50, from Manchester, was also cleared of perverting the course of justice. Mr Cairns is considered one of New Zealand's greatest ever all-rounders, having played 62 Tests for his country between 1989 and 2004. And... some poor American might well see/hear it like that.... then it gets worse... it goes on an entire day... but wait... it goes on still the next day.. then the next.. 5 long days of it.. and at the end of all that? A DRAW!!!

Cricket is a funny old game. TODAY - 3 games of cricket that we are following. A test match in Australia V West Indies, A Test match in South Africa V England, and an ODI in NZ V Sri Lanka. I just had a thought that a RANGE of some of the aspects of cricket are on display. In SA.. we have the sort of game that those unfamiliar (Americans) have difficulty appreciating. A guy bowling a ball in one direction, then another guy bowling it in opposite direction. Occasionally some players run about in several different directions all at the same time. Nobody is out, even after hours of it. While all this is going on the guys dressed as Mounties (Umpires) are making all manner of hand gestures.. even standing on one leg and tapping their knee at times.. how weird is that. This game is likely to end in a draw.... after 5 days!!!! Yet it is ( I think) a good Test match. Funny old game, cricket. In Australia we have another type of game. STILL a cricket test match, but very different from the one in South Africa. This test match features..... RAIN!!!!..... people standing in a wet field with umbrellas... tarpaulins dragged on and off the field. One has to monitor the goings on just in case the rain allows some play.. and so you can waste a whole day watching "nothing happening". And even so... this farce still goes on for 5 days and likely ends in a draw.. just like the "exciting" SA Test. The third game is an ODI (fingers crossed no rain)... after my two descriptions of Test matches.. no surprise that "Test Cricket" is not regarded as great (5 day) entertainment by some people. Hence we have the shorter, 1 day version. Still a whole day and so it retains that traditional cricket thing of long periods and strange activities. ODI too can be a bit boring... can even suffer from the same RAIN issues. As yet the jury is out on this ODI. Cricket...... It's a funny old game. |

From an American newbie's point of view (one year in the watching). ODI is my favorite, especially after watching the World Cup and learning a bit about teams other than NZ, SA, ENG and AUS. I knew nothing about the USA team, and still don't ... I like the one day playing of an ODI, to know there is a result at the end of the day.I have grown to like Test Cricket a lot. I think because there are countless variables to winning, losing or a draw -- in the game. And there is so much more for me to learn which holds my interest. As I told you, Rumpole, I favor Days 2, 3 and 4 to Day one ... and of course, Day 5 is the most exciting -- it it goes to the fifth day. I'm looking forward to watching T20 this week for the first time. I have watched parts of a few non-international teams play, during off season, as a cricket fix. It's just not the same.
