Generally... ODI tries to eliminate wides (not easily playable ) balls.. else bowlers would bowl lots of them. Kind of negative play where batsmen cant (easily) play a genuine cricket shot. It would make for boring game. ODI is all about lots of runs in the limited 50 overs. In test cricket there are periods at times when Batsmen are happy to just leave wide balls and play out time.

In test cricket with lots of overs, say over 100 in an innings... they are more lenient about "wide" deliveries.. sideways.. or based on height as ball reaches batsman.

Half an hour to kick-off... toss soon.

The BAD news is... Rain :doh

I'm afraid there's a bit of rain around in Napier, and more is forecast for the day.

The possible (small) up-side to that?

It might give me a chance to explain and demonstrate how the "Duckworth Lewis Calculation" works :cool

LIFE! ...... It wouldn't be the same if it wasn't filled with disappointments :doh

Match NOT abandoned.... yet! :cool

There were umpire inspections at 3:30 and 4:30 and.....

4.45 pm Sorry this is late, but the news is improving in Napier. The rain has stopped and there will be another inspection at 5.30 pm. We might be able to squeeze in a T20.

5.40 pm There's still a lot water on the outfield, and there are covers on the pitch and the run-ups, but the groundstaff seem to be beginning to remove them. I think there's too much water on the field, to be honest, but we'll see. Player safety has to be absolute priority. Another inspection at 6.20 pm, and the cut-off for a 20-over game is 7.19 pm. Either way, I suspect that will be the final inspection.

:doh

No rain here in Auckland, mate :cool

But.... its is the "4 seasons in one day" place... and things could easily change by tomorrow.

K

Well, I'm not going to get excited (again) about watching a game during the day, until I see the forecast tomorrow.

I'll take your word (Pffft) on it. Oh who am I kidding? I am excited. :D

Cause there's another match afterwards.

:)

Always take the weather with you

Morning has broken.....

:DN4 Worlds above and worlds below...
Sunshine on the dark (thunder) clouds hanging over the (Auckland) Domain.
:DN4

"Smiling at the shit comes down......." :doh

Actually.. as things stand at 6:40 AM... they could get out and play cricket.. it's a summer's day... but who knows by 11:00am it might be winter?

Stand by for weather fuckery and The Duckworth Lewis calculation :cool

Weather update.

Still fine, but with clouds. A feature for last few days is almost total lack of breeze, so hard to say which way the clouds are heading.. perhaps VERY slowly from East to West. As I look East I really do see "Dark Clouds hanging over the Domain".. well there are dark clouds and The Auckland Domain (and Eden Park) are a few miles in that direction :cool

Those clouds are heading FROM the Eden park area .. towards me.... very slowly.

Summary:
Looks good to START cricket in less than an hour.

THX, Rumpole. I am so glad to hear this!
I've been praying that 20% chance of it NOT raining would come through. ;)

And McCullum is back.

But he loses the toss :doh

Pakistan opt to Bat.. McCullum says he wanted to bowl fist anyway :neener

possibility of rain (thunderstorms) later is a factor

I am expecting 300+ NO EXCUSES..

in fact with the possibility of lost time it is even MORE critical to pull finger, not be shagging spiders, and GET ON WITH IT.. score runs already!!
