I hear commentators lamenting the loss of Taylor??

Worried about him not being available for ODI's and Test matches later V Australia?

I think it is GREAT NEWS... Taylor is CRAP. He is there because of past reputation. He is way past his best-by date.

His injury is fantastic news. It forces selectors to drop him.. as they should have anyway :cool

I got a laugh out of one of the commentators saying Nicholls has got some big shoes to fill batting in place of Taylor. Looks like he is doing very well on his own. :D

Yes, this match is not going well at all for NZ. But like Australia does, maybe the middle batting order will save the game for them.

I'm still enjoying it .. thinking positive. I've got it on the big screen, GREAT stream and no India commercials today. Image

So doubling runs at 30/ovrs 134 x = 268.

I am hoping for more runs, NO MORE wickets.

We/they need some dang SIXES.

Yeah... 300+ is a proper game :roll

As an aside:
The commentator you hear "Grant Nisbett" is very much the last of "old school" commentators. Trained as commentators, then specialized in a sport.. as opposed to ex-players who then acquire some commentating skills.
Back in the day when it was State TV.... TVNZ.... they used professional, trained commentators.. often specialing in sport though. Ex-players were more extra comments men.
A young Grant Nisbett I recall was under-study to the NZ voice of Rugby "Keith Quinn", but unlike Quinn.. he also did cricket. He did both sports well.. I believed he was poached from TVNZ and went to Sky. Most Countries nowadays have a full commentary team comprised of ex-players in a particular sport (cricket). Nisbett is doing well to hang in there despite not playing the game.
Note "Smithy" as ex-nz-wicket-keeper often leads the cricket commentary team on Sky.. and Smithy also knows enough to take the lead in Rugby commentary. He and Grant Nisbett are the only two I can think of who manage to pull that double off. Jeff Wilson PLAYED both Rugby and cricket for NZ.. at top level .. and he commentates rugby these days.. but not seen/heard him doing cricket? If he has it is not a regular thing.

Cricket perked up at the end.... I forgive NZ.... they are at least doing their best to make up for early problems.

McClenaghan hit on head ....retired hurt for last ball :eek

Well damn, Pakistan has 4 more runs than NZ did at 30/ovrs x 2 = 276.

I just don't see Pak having the middle line-up batters to beat NZ tonight.

They certainly don't have the lower line-up to match the job NZ did in the last 6 overs.

Hope I'm right.

RR required is 8.

Nothing wrong with that... IF they achieve that now every over, so that it doesn't keep climbing

Hey Rumpole, my husband asked me something I don't know. In the last over in the 1st Innings, there were 3x4s and a wide for 13 runs.

When a player gets injured like McClanaghan did, does NZ not get that bowl over again?

No

Not unless there was something wrong with the delivery (like bowler foot over line)... hitting people in head is something that bowlers try to do.. quite legit... up to batsman to duck....or play a sweep shot..... but having said that.. then bowlers dont want to kill people (much)

A head high ball is legit.. over head is no ball in ODI... but not in test cricket.. allowed one? per over?

The problem arises because tail end batsmen try and play shots.. rather than ducking.. their batting skills not as good as genuine batsmen.. so it is dangerous

Okay, thanks! :)

I didn't know the difference in rules in ODI and Test.

Interesting.
