NICE to be back to watching PROPER CRICKET (50 overs) I really can not get enthusiastic about T20... and as mentioned, it's even worse when overs are lost to rain. I do recall when ODI.. was seen as an aberration... by Test Cricket followers... but they mellowed ODI (50 overs) is as far as they can go for my taste. ------------ ETA What sort of a stream have you got, Molly? |

I am REALLY excited about this ODI, a good time in the day makes a world of difference and I got burned out on T20. Yeah the bad weather was one thing, but the crap batting was NOT entertaining. I have ESPN player showing game, they show ALL New Zealand matches for some reason. Works for me. You have to have ESPN in your cable to watch. It verifies it, I am watching ESPN via AT&T cable. www.espn.com/watch/player |

EXCITED is good...... Lets hope the players make it exciting. As always.... with good playing conditions I think you need a high scoring game... 300+ |

Very glad NZ is fielding. You've taught me to enjoy the chase, plus I have learned (a little bit) to recognize and pick up on good fielding. ETA: ESPN feed is SkySports |

"The Chase" is exciting when target is high(ish) so that batsmen have to "get on with it".... Good if either side could win even up to the last over. I do concede that T20 has meant that players (batsmen) play more aggressively.... those skills have improved the style they take to ODI... Just as Test Cricket these days includes more aggressive batting than in "the old days".. because of skills/attitude carried over from ODI (and T20) to Test Matches. Batsmen do tend to get on with scoring.... as opposed to defending and scoring few runs (Rigor Richardson) |

England NEED to get on with things. (RR 4.0) I concede that with 50 overs (rather than 20) you can "build an innings"... catch up later as they say But......as I have said... catching up later almost never actually happens ---- Molly... can you understand what David Lloyd (Bumble) is saying? Northern English (Lancashire) accent can be tricky, for Yanks (My Wife's family were from Lancashire.. so I speak Lancashire) |

I quit listening, it was distracting, and have been watching only. I didn't know Bumble was commentating. Yes, I can understand him very well, compared to others, I think because he talks slower because he pauses to emphasize certain words. I watched his interview with Simon when he was at Eden Park. I think I posted about him. Listening now. ------------------------ ETA: I don't agree with the WASP, hanging around 291-294. I could be wrong. ------------------------ Okay, now I might understand it happening. They are talking about the batsmen coming up (left-handers) hitting hard with a bunch of boundaries. What a difference a 6 makes. |

I enjoyed watching NZ in the outfield and paying attention, probably more than I ever have, to the bowlers. Doubt I will get to watch this closely for remaining four ODIs but I will try. Only one 3 and four 2s... I think this is amazing and I could tell the guys in the field were hustling to get the ball back to the pitch. I don't know if it has anything to do with placement of players by Kane, but it worked. And don't know the total of extras but I think it is low. ------------------------- ETA: Thank you, Rumpole. |

Post subject: | Re: CRICKET: England tour of Aust & NZ 2017/ 18 |
Captain does get credit for field placements. But also... this is a SMALL field, and that is a big part of why there are few 2's (or 3's) --- You can see Extras on the "scorecard" TAB Extras = 11 (b 1, lb 4, w 6) b = bye (everybody missed the ball, including wicket keeper.... seen as bad mark against wicket keeper) lb = Leg bye (hit batsman's body (batsman was playing a shot), runs not credited to batsman under his name) w = Wide (counted AGAINST bowler) There were no nb = "no ball".... which is an "extra" run as well as a free hit.... very bad thing against bowler |

These dad gum dots are getting on my ..... nerves. Is it good bowling or poor batting? I can't tell. ETA: So it's not just me. That last line about "a batter's game" makes a lot of sense. It's too early for me to throw in the towel, but dang, I'm glad for the wickets so far. Except for Munro, don't know how he would have done. They got a lucky wicket on him, imo. --------------------- Thanks for telling me what Simon said. I'll start listening. P.S. Taylor needs to go. I want to see Nicholls and especially de Grandhomme. Latham doing ok-ish. |

I am officially BORED and fed up with New Zealand not scoring I hope the Poms win ---------- I was already typing my post before I saw yours.... IF Taylor (or Latham) is the answer... it's a silly question Good bowling is part of it, but..... It's a batsman's game.....piss or get off the pot. -------- ETA I have no complaints with Munro. His roll is to be a hitter at the top of the innings... in the spirit of Brendon McCullum It does not work every time... I accept that... AND... he went out with a SR of 150% anyway!! ------- Doulie making same point(s) as me (and you Molly)... smart man Pointing out that Guptill and Williamson combined "wasted" 51 balls faced (51 dot balls). Doulie actually said.. what I often say... "people SAY they can "make it up later" but that is impossible. You can up your rate but not actually "make up" for 51 dot balls. ------------ You SHOULD listen to commentary learn a lot.. and sometimes they point out stuff that you would miss. |

I am listening now. This is the first match I haven't listened to all of it. I always listen. If Taylor can make up for HIS own deficient, then he can stay. He needs 37 runs to become only the 3rd NZ batsman to reach 7k ODI runs. Ross Taylor is about a 1000 runs behind in the race to be New Zealand's top ODI run-getter. ------------------ "It should also be pointed out that Taylor is less than 700 runs of being New Zealand's all time combined scorer in all three formats of the game." He must have been pretty good at one time. ------------------ I can remember being excited when a player (or partnership) reached the half-century .. but now see, it's ok for personal record, BUT it is a detriment to the game if the current RR is so low to the required RR to win the effing match. There is so much to this game! (taking a break from posting... I have too much to say) |

Post subject: | Re: CRICKET: England tour of Aust & NZ 2017/ 18 |
Yeah... Taylor "was good".. and was NZ Captain before McCullum (did not "get on" with McCullum) My beef with him nowadays is..... He does have all that talent... and yet at times does not apply it. For example, as I have pointed out a couple of times recently.... Taylor comes in with team NEEDING runs/boundaries... yet Taylor (super star batsman) will take a single and get off strike (go rest at non-strikers end) and leave some lesser batsman to score the runs the team needs. Plus...Taylor pissed me off a few games back.. and it has stuck with me At the moment.... people praising Taylor commenting on his PERSONAL milestones..... and yet his SR of 92 is LESS than the TEAM needs... The longer he occupies the crease the MORE some other ("less talented") batsman will need to do later... gnomesayin? |

I agree with what you say. Taylor pissed me off a few games back.. and it has stuck with me. Inquiring minds want to know. Was it when Taylor selfishly kept de Grandhomme from a Century? 35 overs 179 x 2 = 358 Really? ------------------- Thanks. I read through the Cricket Q&A and saw 35x2 ..... but did not read far enough. You are correct with the 30x2 ... |

Post subject: | Re: CRICKET: England tour of Aust & NZ 2017/ 18 |
I dont think that was it.... I have not liked Taylor since before I knew who de Grandhomme was I dont remember why initially The prediction thing gives some indication..... the rule is 2x30 over score NZ: 142/3 3o/50 ov) ====> Final score 284 BTW The current Req RR is 8.0 ====> Player SR of 133% Latham failed to do that.. and so is Taylor!!!! ETA Commentators missing the point. As wickets fall they are saying "Taylor not getting support from the other end" The truth is if Taylor (and player at other end) bat to end of innings at Taylor's current SR... NZ WILL LOSE!!!! It is Taylor's LOW SR that is responsible for the fact that incoming batsmen have to strike at 140+% from the outset. They HAVE TO BASH.. because Taylor (and Latham) FAILED to strike even at 100% let alone more. Cheers for Taylor Century (SR 93.51)........ but it's CRAP as far as the team goes New Zealand require another 34 runs with 3 wickets and 18 balls remaining |
