I thought so also, Rumpole.

The GOOD news is there is another match tomorrow. :D

Weather forecast yesterday said rain, but I just checked and it should be all clear, sunshine .... rain the next day. :)

Sri Lanka win

New Zealand 276/8 (50.0 ov)
Sri Lanka 277/2 (46.2 ov)

Sri Lanka deserved the win.......

NZ were simply NOT good enough when they were batting. They need to do a lot better than that :cool

IF this game starts today at all it is going to be reduced overs.. :(

and likely more delays and changing targets calculated by "Duckworth Lewis" program.

It's bit of a lottery usually.... but I guess some crap cricket is better than none.

Last I saw they had "supersopper" rollers collecting water off top of covers. They also do that around field generally... drag ropes to soak up moisture...
I would drag Taylor at end of ropes.. to soak up water....he's not much use for anything else.

My GUESS... this game as it stands (no more rain) will be reduced to a 40 over (per side) game.

That is not so bad if it starts out with both sides knowing that... no "Duckworth Lewis" calc needed.

It can become a farce when more overs lost after play has commenced. They have to allow for team batting first to have been unaware of that during early overs (perhaps did not play as aggressively as they could)... so DL calc is used to adjust target for team batting second (usually runs required increased). Too much of that and it becomes a bit of a farce.. a T20 type bash for team batting second.
IF they can not accommodate 20 overs for each side .... then the game is abandoned.

UPDATE - Bad news.

It's raining again... no work can be even started to dry ground and covers and remove covers.

My guess...... game will be abandoned :(

They have started a 24 over game

Sri Lanka won the toss and will bowl first in a 24-over ODI,

THIS likely will be played like a T-20

More aggressive batting.. averaging say 8+ per over? Score of 180 or so being par?

200+ would be a GOOD score

Thanks, Rumpole!

Glad you were looking. I'd given up.

I didn't know they had played a bit today.

And Taylor has a 142.85 SR. :eek

I gave up but left TV on Mute... they were playing OLD games anyway so very lucky I spotted it had started :95

After 9 overs.... players leaving the field again.... more rain :wall

So we enter into "The Duckworth Lewis Twilight zone"

NZ have lost 3 wickets already... not good when it comes to a DL calculation.

Also only an OK, but NOT a great, RR for a short game 8.3 r/o

My indicator of 100% SR required for all (Most) batsmen needs to be more than that for 20 over game.. say 150%

MJ Guptill lbw b Kulasekara 27/14 SR 192.85
TWM Latham c †Chandimal b Perera 9/8 SR 112.50
KS Williamson* c & b Chameera 12/12 SR 100.00
LRPL Taylor not out 20/14 SR 142.85
HM Nicholls not out 4 /7 SR 57.14

Guptil did OK .. again... the rest need to do BETTER than that :stamp

They must get back on the field within 15 mins to have enough time to make this a (Minimum) 20 over game.

Still raining..... The Covers are being put back on ... so NOT looking good :eek

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field.

TV shows "Par Score" on this pitch as 265... we'll see :cool

No McCullum today.....

NZ have lost an early wicket... Tom Latham
New Zealand 3/1 (1.3 ov)
