Score: NZ 153/2 after 30 overs.

The "rough rule" is double that to calculate final score.... and with only 2 wickets lost (players out) NZ are in a good position.

As always... "cricket is a funny old game" and things can change... but at the moment NZ are on track to score 300+

Oh dear... more rain... play halted...

The pitch is covered during rain showers.... but the rest of the field is open and effected by the rain.

Looks like we will now lose some number of overs... so game will be less than 50 overs for each side.

Oh crap... long delay... game resumes soon... reduced to 42 overs per side... but there is a chance of more rain.. so its a bit of a farce now.

NZ resume batting... with only about 9? overs left.... the need to Bat like hell, throw caution to the wind, when they had 50 overs, they could perhaps of played safe for a few more... then batted like hell in the last 10.

IMO the decrease in overs favours India..... they at least will KNOW what their target is.

I STILL think NZ need close to 270/280 to set a difficult target

A spectator just won $100,000 :91

As mentioned before ( this is second occasion)... for each game prize available... clean catch ball, one-handed, wearing sponsor's (Tui Brewery) orange T-shirt and lanyard... not a high probability... but it's happened twice now.

NZ are trying... but they are dropping like flies... player getting out. :(

in 39th (of 42) over: NZ 251/6

3 overs to go... NZ need at least 10 per over

Play resumes India have a target number of runs and 42 overs to get them.

As I mentioned... when rain causes delay and reduction in overs... it is unfair to the side who did not KNOW from the start that they only had reduced number of overs. It is normal to play a bit safe and bat so as to try to not go out initially... then make a bit of a dash for runs. Years ago several adjustment calculations were tried... none worked too well until finally two mathematicians came up with a "formula" which has been accepted for many years now.

"The Duckworth Lewis Formula"

It's a calculation involving all sorts of variables... as nutty as the results seem.... its the best anybody has come up with... it gets even MORE complicated if there are ongoing delays.

For this game
NZ final score was 271.
The "Duckworth Lewis formula increases that to 296. I guess what it means in simple terms is that if NZ had known they would miss out on 8 overs they would have batted more aggressively from the start? Anyway... that is what is accepted officially.

India are set a target of one more than NZ to win, so they need 297 runs off 42 overs.

Note there are other adjustments... such as normally bowlers can only bowl 10 overs... typically 5 bowlers bowl 10 overs each... that is adjusted too so that the maximum for any one bowler is less that 10. etc.

India all out in 41st over for 277 runs. 277/9 (41.3 ov)

So India FAILED to make the target of 297....

Image NZ WIN!!! :91

Ironically India (277) scored more runs than NZ (271) but some sort of matmatical adjustment IS fair when rain cuts the game short.

Besides... India loss means they drop down to 2nd place on ICC World ODI Ranking, and.......

AUSTRALIA IS NUMBER ONE NOW!!!! :91

( I have long since been an Ocker when it come to cricket, Mate) Image

India won the toss and elected to bowl/field first.

NZ batting first... I can testify to a glorious summer day here in Auckland :)

And a good Eden Park pitch... so I would HOPE this game will involve 300+ runs

NZ were on track to make well over 300... but just lost 3 quick wickets (3 players out)

Now 288/8 in 45th over

NZ innings finished

Score 314/10 A respectable score in the end, but 300 + is to be expected on this pitch. India as World No. 1 team SHOULD be able to better that, but it will take some doing, and will take most of the 50 overs. It should make for an exciting innings from India

So Target for India to get is 315.

India going Ok... but just lost a wicket (player out) in the 10th over

India 66/1 after 10 overs.

India struggleing (6 players out) but they still have a good chance... picking up the scoring rate a bit... but they cant afford to loose wickets (players out)...

Score 218/6 after 39 overs

India 231/6 at end of 40 overs.... need 84 runs off last 10 overs to win. (Average 8.4 per over)

NZ scored 81 off last 10 overs when they were batting, so the positions are almost identical. Loosing any more wickets will slow/stop India, otherwise they have a good chance of doing this

We are down to last over... India need 18 to win... average 3 off each ball.... close to impossible.
